The Christmas Visitors

24 – 26 December 2012

My gosh it’s good to see old friends again!  We’ve been pretty lucky since we have been away, mostly seeing family or friends from home every few months.  We’ve had close friends Patricia and Conrad, then my parents, then Rohan’s parents and his entire Scottish side of family, then Kay my mum’s friend in Rome, and then finally, Sarah and Andy – my wonderful high school friends came for Christmas!  So much excitement when I met them at the airport, that I even splashed coffee all over myself.  It was so good to just ‘hang out’.  They were welcoming a break from moving around and travelling so it was great to just sit and chat for hours.  Christmas Eve was full of blue skies and snow, a walk around our neighbourhood, and an eggnog fuelled evening of card games and Skype sessions.  Then, Christmas Day featured a breakfast of fluffy pancakes with maple syrup (of course!), fruit salad and champagne, then crazy tobogganing rides up at Mont Royal, then home again for more eating – our AMAZING Christmas dinner!!  Now that’s what Christmas is all about!

We had a couple of days to relax after Christmas and look around Montreal, and even though a record breaking snow storm came through we still made the most of it.  Surprisingly it wasn’t too cold, so we went out in it, made snow angles and acted like children.  Fun times for us.  Then not so fun times for the city to clean up the 50cm of snow that fell in 24 hours.  Chaos.  But then we left and drove down through Toronto to Niagara Falls.  More on that shortly…
